3 Blue Ribbon Crock Pot Meals for Cold Weather Camping

"Food is the ingredient that binds us together."
Enjoying meals together at the campground is a treat.  Whether around a picnic table or the campfire, I cherish that time with our family and friends.  However, I don't want to spend all of my time cooking and preparing those meals.  A crock pot is a tool that simplifies meals.  Here are three meals that will keep your crew coming back for more and leave you with more time to enjoy exploring!

Crock Pot Chilli

While you could prepare your chili from start to finish in a crock pot, I like to prepare my chili at home ahead of time.  Use the crock pot to reheat and serve on your first night at the campground.  The Pioneer Woman's Simple Perfect Chilli is a hearty and flavorful meal.

This chili is just right for camping with just the right amount of flavor.

Our friend made white bean chicken and sausage chili that he also reheated in the crockpot.

Baked Potatoes

A baked potato bar makes a wonderful meal on a cold night.  Start your potatoes in the morning by washing and pricking your potatoes with a fork or knife.  Lay each potato on a piece of foil and top with a pat of butter.  Sprinkle with salt and wrap in the foil.  Cook the potatoes on low for 7 to 8 hours on low or 4 to 5 hours on high or until fork tender.

Wash and prick your potatoes.  Top with a pat of butter and salt.  Wrap and done!

Start early in the morning.  We cooked on low for several hours before finishing on high.

Use any of the leftover chili as one of your toppings for the baked potato bar.  Provide sour cream, cheese, chopped green onions, jalapenos or any other toppings you choose to make a meal.  You could even add Ranch dressing.  I've seen people do that as well.  Everyone ends up happy with a baked potato bar!

I love being able to start my evening meal in the morning and forget about it until that night.  It is the king of "set it and forget it" because it has such minimal effort!

Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal

Even your breakfast can be prepared in a crockpot.  Apple cinnamon oatmeal is a family favorite for us.  I have tried several combinations of this recipe.  You can prepare this with steel cut oats or old-fashioned rolled oats.  I add 2 small granny smith apples, brown or coconut sugar, cinnamon, a pinch of salt and butter.  Cooked on low overnight, you awake to a wonderful creamy treat.  Top with a dollop of Greek yogurt for a little protein.

You can prepare any meal in the crockpot.  It is a kitchen tool that is on high rotation for us both at home and at the campground.  Fall and winter camping meals work perfectly in the crock pot for us.  It is a way to prepare warm, comfort food meals with ease.  This weather is excellent for hiking and biking in the deep south.  The next time you head out to the campground, grab your crock pot and enjoy an easy and delicious meal!
